Matteo Manassero, a Tiger Woods in making
Italy’s young sensation, Matteo Manassero celebrated his 18th birthday yesterday with his friends and family in Verona, Italy. The youngster already gave himself, a great birthday present by
winning the Maybank Malaysian Open this week.
It was a great weekend for the teenager, who won his second European Tour event at an age of just 17 years old. At times, one has to believe that he is just in his teens. He simply plays flawless golf
while he is on the course. This is what the youngster did in Malaysia.
Matteo was simply fantastic during all the four rounds he played at Kuala Lumpur Golf Course. He never looked under pressure by the situation even on the final day. The Italian carded under par rounds
on all the four days which led him to an empathetic victory. Although, he was behind on the leader board on the final day, he managed to climb on the final score-board.
The youngster could not have had this victory at a better time. He posted a superb round of four-under par, 68 on the final day and had a one shot victory over Gregory Bourdy. This victory surely gave
him the confidence and self-belief.
The field in Malaysia had all the top ranked players of Europe and Asia. World Number one, Martin Kaymer, was also among the participants. Manassero did not wary of the players who were charging on the
leader board. He was truly amazing to watch as the spectators got their money's worth.
This was his second as a European Tour member. His family and fans were overwhelmed with the way this young sensation played. Rory McIlroy was his nearest competitor on the final day in Malaysian Open.
Manassero was probably too good for McIlroy on the final day.
Manassero already has redefined history. He also has broken many records. The teenager became the youngest player to have won the Malaysian Open. In his young career, he has achieved so much success and
fame throughout the world that the veteran professionals are surprised to see his age and his game.
The 18-year-old enjoyed the birthday celebrations with his family and friends. Last year, he also became the youngest player on European Tour to have won a title. His maiden break-through victory came
last year at the Castello Masters Costa Azahar in Spain. Matteo won by a good margin of four shots.
At times, the players around him simply are amazed about his age and his powerful hitting.
Last year, he made his debut as a professional at the BMW Italian Open. Officially, the youngster declared himself as a professional on 3 May, 2010. The Malaysian Open champion was also named Sir Henry
Cotton Rookie of the Year award last year.
Now that he has improved his current world rankings to 33rd in the world, who knows that he might be the next Tiger Woods in making. Woods was also at this age when he started winning the tournaments.
Matteo on his birthday said, “It’s a big thing in anyone’s life turning 18. You get your car; you get your bank account and everything else that comes with it. It will be a big difference for me travelling.
It’s been difficult travelling and only being 17. You can be alone sometimes which isn’t easy but the actual travelling isn’t too difficult.”
Manassero’s mom and dad have been accompanying him in the tournaments he plays. It was a special occasion for the young rising star when he picked up the Malaysian Open trophy.
As the youngster gains fame and plays like a champion, one can expect him to jump among the top ranked players of the world. Woods and McIlroy have are all praised for the efforts laid down by this youngster.
We can surely expect some more records to be broken in the next couple of months. As we see him playing so confidently, it might take him a couple of tournaments to claim the number one ranking in the
world.
