Now, Manassero is hoping to mark another victory in his young career. Last year, the Italian turned his status to a professional.
The 18-year-old, Manassero, played the practice round yesterday and enjoyed the layout of the course. He thinks that it is tailor-made for him as he played some brilliant approach shots. This would be his third victory on the European circuit if he emerges
as the leader after the final round.
Manassero has already surprised many with his age and his game. His consistently delicate touches on the greens have helped him produce some great under par rounds. Manassero won the Maybank Malaysian Open by a margin of just one stroke. It was a star-studded
field as the youngster carved his way to the victory.
The two-time winner on European Tour also became the youngest player on the European Tour to win a title.
After playing the practice round, Manassero said, "I am playing well and I like the course. I think it suits my game. Some of the holes run between pine trees and you need to place the ball. That's good for me, as I like to play target golf. There are also
some more open power holes. The par fives are reachable but very technical.”
Manassero further said that the greens will surely be a challenge for all the players as they are on the fast side. It will certainly test the ability of the golfers who are eyeing for top honours in Open de Espana. Up till now, Manassero has had a great
career. He also moved in the top-50 ranking of the world and now holds the 33rd spot in the current world golf rankings.
The Molinari brothers who have had great success playing on the European Tour are very pleased to see their compatriot compete on the international circuit. They have also taught Manassero some pros and cons of competitive golf.
Matteo is also upbeat about his chances in Spain. He will surely be one of the favourite players to win this four-day championship.
