Matteo Manassero eyes wire-to-wire victory at the Nordea Masters – Golf news
After recording the biggest victory of his career last week at the BMW PGA Championship, Matteo Manassero is confident to add another title to his tally this week, when he tees off at the Nordea Masters, on Thursday, May 30, 2013.
The European Tour event will be staged at the Bro Hof Slott Golf Club, and has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of the oldest winner on the European Tour, Miguel Angel Jimenez, the 2008 winner of the tournament, Peter Hanson, and England’s
Paul Casey.
Last week, the Italian star held his nerves to record a stunning victory in the playoffs, and now believes that the victory has greatly boosted his morale, which will help him in making a strong run in Stockholm this week.
Manassero, along with Simon Khan and Marc Warren, entered the sudden-death playoffs at Wentworth Club, where he outshined his opponents on the fourth extra hole, to record the fourth European Tour event of his career.
“What happened on Sunday afternoon was really magical. Sometimes I look back and it brings a nice smile to my face,” he said. “But I’m here now so I’m looking ahead. That was a really nice part of my career but we have got a long season still ahead.”
“All the congratulations you receive are all very nice – it’s always nice to receive compliments from the guys on Tour and the caddies,” added the Italian. “There are so many weeks where I’m not playing well and struggling and I’m playing well now so I want
to try to use it.”
Daniel Gaunt, in the meantime, is another player who is entering the event with a recent victory added to his resume – he won the Telenet Trophy last week on the Challenge Tour.
He also had to go through the sudden-death playoffs, in order to record the second Challenge Tour victory of his career.
Lee Westwood, on the other hand, will not be present in the field as the defending champion, as he decided to skip the event this season.
