Matteo Manassero hopes to play the US Open, as he performs well at the Spanish Open
Matteo Manassero finished tied for the second position in the second round of the Spanish Open, acheiving his goal to make it to the US Open.
The 19-year-old Italian golfer displayed an amazing performance in both the rounds, as he scored a 4-under 140.
He is delivering a sensible and consistent game, at the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla in Seville, Spain. He shot 70 strokes in both the rounds and giving a tough time to his rivals.
The US Open is scheduled to start from June 14 to 17, at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. The Italian teen is hoping to make it to the upcoming major event.
"I seem to be always trying lately to be trying to get myself into a major," Manassero said. "I missed out on the Masters and I'm now four places on the rankings from making the U.S. Open, but the good thing is that I am again in contention and that's all
I can do”.
He added: "This also is my last chance for the World Match Play Championship, as I am first reserve. But in contention is what I expect of myself now and I like that feeling. It means I'm consistent".
He started the Spanish Open on Thursday and shot four birdies, an eagle and four bogeys in the first round. He reached among the top-10 players by scoring a -2.
Then, he further paced up his performance and added -2 again in the second round. On Friday, he was mostly at par and shot three birdies in total.
However, he also carded one-bogey and shared the second position with three other processionals. Gregory Bourdy is leading the scores and Manassero is only one-stroke behind him.
"I am very happy with how I have handled these two days because this has been two of the toughest days we've had on the tour this year," Bourdy said.
Manassero is playing well. There are many chances left for him to finish among the top leaders. He can easily earn a place in the US Open, by continuing his sensible game in the next two rounds.
