Matteo Manassero playing at the Sicilian Open,
ineligible for Masters
Matteo Manassero, who was unable to make it to the Masters field, is playing at his home tournament of the Sicilian Open in Italy.
The 18-year-old Italian professional golf player is currently on the 61st position in the Official World Golf Rankings. He missed the chance to be at the Masters due to his ranking falling outside the fifties.
He turned professional in 2010 and played the first major in the same year. He played a good game there and finished tied for the 36th position at the end of the day.
This year, he is ineligible for the major, and is now in the field of the European Tour-staged event in Italy. He is excited to play at his homeland golf course and also confident to score well.
“I have extra motivation in front of my own people,” Manassero said.
He is the winner of two European Tour events, as he won the 2010 Castelló Masters Costa Azahar and Maybank Malaysian Open in 2011.
Similarly, he continued his performance in the current year and played seven events in total. He started his season from Volvo Golf Champions and finished on the 23rd at day-end.
Then, he moved to Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and impressed the spectators and his fans by scoring a 10-under278.
He secured the 6th spot on the leaderboard and displayed an improved game. He is a new rising player, but has less experience.
According to analysts, limited experience was the basic reason for missing the cut at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy.
After performing well at the European Tour events, he was selected for the World Golf Championship – Accenture Match Play Championship’s field. He finished the mega event on the 17th position.
He has also recorded a runner-up position at the Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol. He scored the highest there and recorded a 15-under par and 273 strokes in total.
This amazing result helped him increase his confidence and now he is performing well at the Sicilian Open in Italy.
The field is tough and Manassero will be facing fearsome rivals at the Verdura Golf and Spa Resort, from March 29 to April 1.
However, he is in his full form and has ample chances to be on the top of the leaderboard by recording good scores.
