Matteo Manassero shines again at Nordea Masters – Golf news
Matteo Manassero fired a six-under par 66, in the opening round of the Nordea Masters, to share the lead with Pablo Larrazábal, on May 30, 2013.
The Italian star is enjoying a great form, as he recorded the biggest win of his career last week when he secured a sudden-death playoff victory at the BMW PGA Championship.
The first round of the Nordea Masters witnessed him maintaining consistency in his game, which allowed him to become the strong contender of the title this week.
“I’ve never started that well - it was a great start,” he said. “I was making putts and to start like that was strange because I’m not used to it.”
“I’ve been tired but I woke up and I felt good,” he added. “It’s a tough course when the wind picks up so I think every afternoon is going to be hard.”
Starting on the back nine of the course, he birdied each of the first six holes that he played. Thereafter, he lost a shot on the 17th hole of the course, to reach the turn in five under.
The front nine of the course witnessed him slowing down a bit, as he only managed to record two birdies against a lone bogey. Even then, he managed to take the clubhouse lead.
Later in the day, Larrazábal also joined him on top of the leaderboard, courtesy of his seven birdies against a lone bogey.
Taking to the European Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in getting off to a stunning start at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club. According to him, it was a bit difficult to score low because of the difficulty offered by the venue course.
“I played great, I was five under after ten,” said Larrazábal. “I made birdies on the par fives and held my score. It wasn't easy; the golf course is playing okay this morning but you can make a double or triple bogey.”
The Spaniard has recorded four top-12 finishes in his five starts, and is now confident to turn his close finishes into a victory this week by showing consistency in the remaining three rounds.
