Matteo Rabottini wins the stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia 2012
Matteo Rabottini of Team Farnese Vini-Selle Italia opened his 2012 winning account after his splendid performance during the stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia 2012.
The Italian rode brilliantly during the 172 kilometre race between Busto Arsizio to Lecce/Pian dei Resinelli and occupied the top podium spot.
Alberto Losada Alguacil of Team Katusha finished 23 seconds behind and achieved the third position.
Sergio Luis Henao Montoya of Team Sky, Michele Scarponi of Team Lampre-ISD, Ivan Basso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale and Stefano Pirazzi of Team Colnago-CSF Inox achieved the fourth, the fifth, the sixth and the seventh positions.
He was over the moon after securing his first victory of the 2012 season and thanked his team-mates for their continuous support throughout the race.
He briefed, “After more than 150km in a break, winning in the sprint was an amazing feeling, like everyone”.
“I had come to the Giro hoping to win a stage... and I’ve done it! This is truly the best day of my life”.
“I had [Farnese DS] Luca Scinto and [Farnese CEO] Valentino Sciotti in the team car cheering me on”.
“When Rodriguez came up to me, I almost lost all hope, but I held firm and it went well”.
The cyclist dedicated the glorious victory to his girlfriend and the new born baby.
He is optimistic to continue his tremendous form for the coming stages of the Giro and is now eyeing the stage 16 of the race, right after the second rest day.
Rabottini also achieved the top spot during the first, the second, the third and the fourth mountain of the race filled his pockets with 38 important UCI points.
Ryder Hesjedal has now lost the top overall spot as Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver of Team Katusha has jumped up to the top position after the stage 16 classifications.
The Spaniard has put up a good 30 second margin on the previous leader and is now focussed on the remaining stages of the Giro.
Ivan Basso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale holds the third position while Paolo Tiralongo and Roman Kreuziger of Team Astana are at the fourth and the fifth position respectively.
Mark Cavendish of Team Sky is leading the point’s classifications with a maximum number of 110 points in his pocket whereas Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver of Team Katusha and Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda occupies the second and the third positions.
