Matteo Trevisan battles past Marco Cecchinato to move into 2nd round – ATP ORBETELLO Challenger 2011
Italian tennis pro Matteo Trevisan defeated compatriot Marco Cecchinato 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 on Tuesday to make it to the second round of 2011 ORBETELLO Challenger Series in Orbetello, Italy.  Despite making a very slow start to the match,
Cecchinato was able to raise his game when it was required.
Coming back from a set down in the match, Trevisan showed amazing temperament and fighting abilities to clinch the following two sets to seal an emphatic victory. The match was played on an extremely competitive note as it lasted
for more than 2 hour and 20 minutes.
Cecchinato drew the first blood as he made his only serve break of the match to take control of things. Looking to stay in the set, Trevisan also looked to create break opportunities and displayed some high quality tennis. He held
on to his serve games to take the game score to 4-5, requiring a break of serve to stay in the set.
Cecchinato concentrated on his own game play and converted his next service game with ease to take the set score lead 1-0.
Looking down and out, Trevisan needed a special performance to earn victory in the match. Showing great character on the court, he played every point with a positive frame of mind. Breaking his opponent twice in the second set,
he earned an impassable 5-1 lead. Dashing a great forehand winner cross court, he made two set available to him and then converted the first one to even the set score.
Cecchinato also had his chances to break back but he couldn’t handle the pressure well enough and started to make a lot of unforced errors including few costly doubles faults. It will be fair to say that he lost his concentration
in the match after the opening set and failed to recover from the heavy blows inflicted on him by his opponent.
Both players put up a great fight in the decider as some competitive tennis was witnessed. Neither of the contestants conceded a serve break until a very tricky 5-5 situation was reached in the set. Trevisan made most of the psychological
advantage he had gained earlier and broke the challenger to take a 6-5 lead in the set, serving for the match. Playing in a lovely chip shot, he set up two match points for himself and secured the second one with converting a long rally in his favour.
Trevisan’s powerful and well directed serves proved to be the main difference between the players as he converted an impressive 80 per cent of the point son his first serve. He also saved four out five break points in the match,
suggesting that he had good defensive skills. The Italian will be looking to continue his good form in his upcoming matches as well.
