Matters yet to finalise between Baltimore Orioles and Manager Buck Showalter on contract extension
The talks between the Baltimore Orioles and their manager Buck Showalter are still a going on the matter of Buck’s contract extension. Both parties are more than just willing to get the extension and it is a bit surprising that they have yet to ink the new
deal.
Showalter has a contract with the birds until the end of the 2013 season. There have been speculations that the new deal will be a multi-year one though the manager himself has downplayed the importance of the term of the contract or the duration of his
extension.
It is suggested that the manager will get a three years extension with the team but nothing has been hinted officially as of yet. A deal seems to be close as Peter Angelos, the owner of Baltimore Orioles, recently said that no one was more interested in
keeping Buck than him.
"Nobody's more interested in keeping him than I am," Angelos said recently in a public appearance.
Buck is credited much for the resurgence of the Baltimore ball club in the 2012 when the team made its first post-season appearance since 1997. It was also the first winning season for the team during the same period.
The 56-year-old who resides in Dallas has been coming back and forth and has been meeting Peter Angelos to chalk out a deal. It has been a while since the talks started yet nothing substantial in terms of a new deal has come to the scene.
In 2012, the team posted a 93-69 record and almost made it to the top of the table in the American League East, just trailing to the New York Yankees by a couple of games. The team had some close brushes posting a 29-9 record in games that were decided by
a single run. His team also won 16 consecutive extra innings games in 2012, which were the most by any team.
Ever since joining the Orioles, Buck Showalter has become a favourite amongst the local crowds. He was recently named as the Marylander of the Year by the Baltimore Sun and fans agreed to the call. He has gotten a strong support and the fans certainly are
waiting for the extension to be made official.
Buck has been an inspirational manager for the Baltimore Orioles and has led them well in the short period he has been associated with the team. It would be great that the organisation signs him for an extension at the earliest to avoid any confusion amongst
the management and the players.
The owner has expressed the view that he wants to have him as the manager in the long run and that is what exactly should be done and without further delays.
