Matteson continues to lead at John Deere Classic
Troy Matteson continued his sensational run of form at the John Deere Classic. He shot five-under 66 to extend his lead at the top. Matteson is currently leading the tournament by three strokes but right on his back is Steve Stricker.
Steve has improved as the event progressed. He also a shot a 66 and is confident ahead of the final round.
Matteson once again produced a steady performance, with seven birdies and two bogeys, which pegged down his score a little. Matteson has been atop the leaderboard since the event started at the TPC Deere Run.
Steve Stricker the three-time defending champion is looking to win this title for the fourth time in four years. If he manages to achieve this feat, he will be the fifth golfer in the world to have a won a tournament for four years in a row.
Steve was going very smoothly until the last hole where he bogeyed. May be it was the pressure that got to him. It is not an easy task to win the same title for four years in a row.
It is certain that Steve will be feeling the heat going in to the fourth round but true champions overcome the pressure and deliver.
Zach Johnson, the crowd’s favourite, is also not far behind Matteson. Zach is the crowds blue eyed boy at the TPC Deere Run, he has been featuring in this event for the last thirteen years.
Before the tournament started, Zach was tipped to win the John Deere Classic but so far he has not been up to the mark. However, he is not very far behind the leader, Matteson.
Zach is just a stroke behind Stricker and he is four shots adrift of Matteson. A special fourth round could mean that Zach may emerge victorious at the TPC Deere Run.
Matteson feels that, going into the fourth round, pressure will not be on him but it will be on Steve. He is partially right because Steve is chasing a record and probably the crowd too will cheer for him.
“Steve is a great guy,” Matteson said. “He is the kind of guy who personifies what we are looking for on the Tour. He is the kind of guy you can tell your kids to use as a role model”.
