Former Bayern Munich and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan midfielder, Lothar Matthaus, feels that one of Spain duo Andres Iniesta or Xavi are the worthy winners of the FIFA Ballon d’Or over Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The dynamic midfielders are regarded by most as the best in the world, and are expected to once again contest the famous individual honour after their scintillating form until now. Nevertheless, the 51-year-old believes the above
mentioned attackers have not had the same impact with their countries.
Therefore, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hungary-c2920 head coach insisted Xavi and Iniesta should win the award ahead of Messi and Ronaldo. He further added that there are a number of top players who are nominated for the category, but he believes a Spanish
footballer is more deserving for the award.
"In my opinion there are currently several exceptional footballers who could justifiably win the title, but I think a Spaniard should win the FIFA Ballon d'Or," he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former 'European Footballer of the Year' suggested he wants either Xavi or Iniesta to get the award, and admitted that these two players are not much in the limelight because they do not score enough goals. However, he conceded
that they have won every trophy that a player can win in his career.
"My favourites are Xavi and Iniesta. Maybe they don’t stand out as much as Ronaldo and Messi because they don’t score as often, but they’ve won one trophy after another for club and country,” he added.
"They’re the heartbeat in both teams [http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Spain] and are always pulling the strings on the pitch, as they impressively demonstrated at Euro 2012,” he finally concluded.
Matthaus said that they both are crucial for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 and Xavi to the Ballon
d’Or.
