Matthew Barber dominates Men’s 500 yards freestyle heats – AT&T Winter National Championships
Matthew Barber of Zonaaz dominated the qualification round of the Men’s 500 yards freestyle on opening day of the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships in Austin, TX, USA on Thursday, November 29.
Barber showed no mercy to his opponents in the distant event and made his way towards the finishing wall for first position.
With his impeccable efforts, Barber remained more than one body length ahead of his closest competitor and touched the wall by producing a time of 4 minutes and 17.21 seconds.
Barber was traced by Evan Pinion of DYNAGA, who stayed 1.51 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall for second position by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 18.72 seconds.
Pinion was chased by Michael McBroom of UT-ST, who stayed 0.97 seconds faster from his former finisher and reached the finishing blockade for third best qualifying position by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 19.69 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Cristian Quintero of USC-CA and Clark Smith of DSA-CO, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck swim for fourth position.
The duo remained involved in a close combat from the start but failed to escape each other over the finishing end for fourth position and ended their swims in identical timings.
They stayed 0.70 seconds slower from McBroom and touched the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 20.39 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the event was obtained by Nikita Lobintsev of TROJCA, who remained nearly two body lengths apart and hit the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 22.35 seconds.
Lobintsev was chased by Nicholaus Johnson of USC-CA, who was 0.18 seconds slower from overwhelming his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 22.53 seconds for seventh place.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Michael Domagala of AGUAMR, who emerged on the finishing end by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 23.17 seconds.
Furthermore, Barber was overjoyed with his top finish and articulated his desire of continued the same in future in order to please his fans.
