Matthew Conway dominates Men’s 200m butterfly prelims – Speedo Junior National Championships
Matthew Conway of Blue Devil Swim won the qualification rounds of Men’s 200m butterfly on first day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Monday, August 13.
The 17-year-old Conway stayed in a prominent lead over his opponents from the start and rushed his way towards the finishing end for the fastest qualification spot.
Conway smothered expectations of his opponents who were eyeing the fastest qualification spot of the race as he made his way towards the finishing wall for first position with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.82 seconds.
He was followed by James Yoder of Stingrays-GA, who was 0.57 seconds apart and cruised his way towards the finishing blockade for second position with a timing of 2 minutes and 01.39 seconds.
Yoder remained 0.03 seconds faster from his subsequent challenger, Clark Smith of Denver Swim Academy, who proved his eligibility for third finest spot of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 01.42 seconds.
Fourth fastest qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Justin Lynch of Terrapins Swim Team, who was more than half a body length slower and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 02.05 seconds for fourth position.
Subsequently, Lynch was followed by Joshua Quallen of Dayton Raiders, who remained 1.04 seconds behind and finished fifth in the swim by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 03.09 seconds.
Quallen was trailed by Andrew Seliskar of CUBU-PV, who remained only 0.18 seconds slower and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.27 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Scott Fortier of Area Tallahassee, who was just one arm stroke slower from upsetting his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 03.46 seconds.
Fortier remained 0.24 seconds faster from Nickolaus Orf of Parkway Swim Club, who completed his race in eighth best place by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 03.70 seconds.
Furthermore, Conway was contented with his fastest qualification effort and said that he would try to dominate the final round to win gold medal.
