Matthew Cowdrey wins Men’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Matthew Cowdrey of Australia won gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle in S9 category on ninth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, September 7.
The Australian swimmer demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the two-lap freestyle discipline as he proved his dominance over his challengers and occupied gold medal of the discipline.
Cowdrey remained half body length ahead of his closest swimmer and transpired on the finishing blockade for gold medal by touching the wall with a timing of 55.84 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Tamas Toth of Hungary, who stayed 0.62 seconds slower from securing top position and finished second in the event by producing a time of 56.46 seconds.
Toth was followed by Tamas Sors of Hungary, who stayed 0.23 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and secured third position of the event by reporting a time of 56.69 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Jose Antonio Mari Alcaraz of Spain, who suffered a loss of only 0.06 seconds from his foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as fourth best swimmer with a timing of 56.75 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was secured by Brenden Hall of Australia, who stayed 0.54 seconds away from overpowering his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 57.29 seconds.
Hall was trailed by Takuro Yamada of Japan, who was just 0.26 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and finished sixth in the event by submitting a time of 57.55 seconds.
Subsequently, Yamada was followed by Andriy Kalyna of Ukraine, who stayed only 0.04 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing blockade as seventh best finisher with a timing of 57.59 seconds.
Eighth finest spot of the event was obtained by Federico Morlacchi of Italy, who stayed almost 0.80 seconds slower from Kalyna and tapped the wall with a timing of 58.24 seconds.
Cowdrey was overjoyed with his victory in the freestyle discipline and stated that he would continue his hard work to achieve the same at upcoming events.
