Matthew Ebden blisters Michal Przysiezny in opening round bout – Slovak Open 2011
Matthew Ebden, Australian world No.86 and seeded fifth for Slovak Open 2011, played his opening round match against Polish international, Michal Przysiezny, beating the 27-year-old down in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6(6) in an hour and 8 minutes of indoor hard court rallying on Tuesday, 15th of November 2011.
The disparity in ranking did prove to effect the competition. Also, Australian has won seven of his last ten fixture and all of them on hard courts. On the contrary, his rival, Polish, has had only three victories out of his last ten matches. Winning the opening round, Ebden also leads 2-0 in the head-to-head scores.
Moving on with the match, the two walked down the blue court cheered by a handful of spectators and followed with the warm up and the service toss. Winning the toss, Ebden, seeded fifth for the event, kicking off the match serving out the first game of the opening set, 1-0.
World No.239, Przysiezny followed with serving game two of the set, however, failed to capitalize and fell short. Winning away an early breakpoint, Ebden took the advantage and served out his second serve extending his lead from two straight games to three in a row.
Finally, Polish rolled down his side of the scoreboard bagging game four, however, was too late to make a difference to the mighty Australian. Ebden followed with a spectacular serve-break-serve tactic, serving out game five, 4-1, breaking in the sixth and concluding the set serving out game seven, 6-1.
Continuing with set two, Przysiezny made a strong start winning a double game point winner; however, Ebden tailed the Polish lower ranked 27-year-old to even up the scores, 1-1. Winning a game each next, the two equalled up again at 2-2, before the two broke each other next to level up again at 3-3.
Unable to gain a breakpoint next, the set scores again equalled up at 4-4 and then on 5-5 and ultimately the set went into a tiebreaker. Ebden returning first, took away the first three points right away, however, Polish 27-year-old struck back and levelled up at 6-6. Ebden finished off the set winning the last two points winning the tiebreaker 8-6, the set and the match in straight sets.
Through to the second stage of the ATP Challenger tour, Ebden now goes on to play Frank Dancevic, Canadian, as the two go head-to-head for the quarter-final round seat of Slovak Open 2011.
