Matthew Ebden hires Peter McNamara for coaching job – Tennis News
Australia’s fourth highest ranked tennis player, Matthew Ebden, has announced that he will be getting coaching from the former world number seven, Peter McNamara, from now on.
Ebden, who ended the 2012 season with a ranking of 105 in the world, will try to improve his performance next year. The Australian player attained his career best ranking of 61 in October but it got dropped in the last weeks.
On the other hand, McNamara was one of the best players in the world at his prime. The Australian player was a better player of doubles than singles. He captured three Grand Slam doubles titles including two Wimbledon and one Australian
Open.
McNamara also has a good amount of coaching experience under his belt. His most recent student was Bulgaria’s upcoming player, Grigor Dimitrov. The Australian legend also coached the former world number eight, Mark Philippoussis,
at one time.
The 57-year-old believes that Ebden can improve a lot, as he has a complete game and just needs to refine it. McNamara stated, "He has a chance because he doesn't really have a weakness and that's a nice situation to be in, as
it means he can build on what he's got."
McNamara has set the target of breaking into the top 30 for Ebden. He thinks that his 25-year-old student can easily achieve that, as there is not much difference between players between the world ranking of seven and 100.

He added, "We'll take a more professional attitude towards building to the Top 30 in the world and I think that's where he can make. There's no difference between anyone outside the Top 6 and the next 100: they're all very similar. Matt's one of the guys who
can make a jump if he puts his head down and pushes his limits."
Ebden gave his best performance of 2012 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he stunned the then world number eight, Mardy Fish of USA, to advance to the last-16 stage. The Australian player also gave a good showing at
the BB&T Atlanta Open, where he went down in the quarter-finals.
