Matthew Goss to lead Team GreenEdge in the 2012 season
Team GreenEdge will start the coming season with the Jayco Bay Cycle Classic in 2012. The surprising element in the race will be the split partition of the team, as a total number of nine riders will form two teams to participate in the event.
The race will start on January 1st and the four-day stage race will conclude on January 4th. The cyclists will ride through the Ritchie Boulevard, Geelong Eastern Park, Portarlington and finally meet up at Williamstown for the final
day.
Matthew Goss will be leading one of the teams racing as GreenEdge. He will be accompanied by Leigh Howard, Wes Sulzberger, Robbie McEwen and Mitch Docker. The cyclist is hopeful that his side will perform well in its debut season.
During the race launch in Melbourne, he said, "It's definitely going to be an honour to be in the first team and one of the first riders to pull on the GreenEdge jersey and create history when we go and race for the first time".
Goss performed marvellously during the 2011 season as he won the Milan-San Remo, along with a stage 3 win at the Paris-Nice.
He also secured the first place victory at the Tour of California and a stage 2 victory at the Tour of Oman.
Matthew finished first overall at the previous edition of the Classic Bay Series with a stage 1 and a stage 4 victory. He is keen to lead the team in its debut season and is positive about the strong team line-up.
The Australian said, "The team definitely wanted me to do it, and I definitely like to do it. You can really get a sense of where you are at and get a good gauge when you're racing all the best sprinters. Everyone who is going to be competitive at the Tour
Down Under is competitive at the Bay Crits".
It is believed that the second team will race under the name of Mitchelton Wineries – Lowe Farms banner.
Jayco Bay is considered to be the World’s fastest classic race. It is an ideal contest for the cyclists to warm up before the Tour Down Under and the World Championships.
