Matthew Grevers conquers gold medal in Men’s 100m freestyle - 2011 Southwest Classic Tucson
Matthew Grevers of USA swimming team conquered the gold medal in the Men’s 100m freestyle category, on the fourth day of the 2011 Southwest Classic Tucson.
Southwest Classic Tucson is of considerable importance, as it provides a chance to professional swimmers to prepare themselves before the upcoming battle at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
Grevers stunned the arena by winning his second consecutive gold medal of the session in the 100m event, posting a time of 50.32 seconds. He was 0.52 seconds ahead of the second position holder, Darian R Townsend, who touched the wall for the silver medal
by posting a time of 50.84 seconds. Moments later, the 23-year-old Nicolas C Oliveira of Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics- AZ settled on the podium for the bronze medal by producing a time of 50.96 seconds.
Grevers is the three time 2008 Olympic medallist, including two gold medals of the relay events and a silver medal in the 100m back-stroke. The 26-year-old swimmer already secured the golden crown of the 50m freestyle event in a meet conducted today.
The fourth fastest spot was claimed by 21-year-old Luke A Pechmann of Tucson Ford, who was 1.26 seconds slower than the bronze medallist and concluded his swim in a wonderful timing of 51.22 seconds. He was followed by Matthew Stanley of New Zealand, who
appeared on the finishing wall as the fifth fastest swimmer, posting a time of 51.77 seconds.
The sixth fastest spot was occupied by Kelley P Wyman, who was 0.13 seconds behind, posting a time of 51.90 seconds. In the meantime, 25-year-old Masayuki Kishida transpired as the seventh fastest swimmer in the event, by touching the wall in a time of 52.25
seconds. Giles P Smith of Unattached-AZ ended his swim in the eighth fastest place, with a timing of 52.37 seconds.
After his second victory on the same day, Grevers felt extremely happy and said that he will try to continue his performance in future events. The session concluded after the completion of all swimming events, while the winners earned medals for their remarkable
efforts.
