Matthew Grevers wins Men’s 100m back-stroke gold - 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships
Matthew Grevers won the gold medal of Men’s 100m back-stroke swim on second day of the ongoing 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Wednesday, August 3, in Palo Alto, California.
The championship is taking place at the aquatic centre of Stanford University, while the competition is subject to conclude on August 8 with the completion of all swimming events.
The 26-year-old Grevers of Tucson Ford Deal transpired as the strongest swimmer of the two-lap swim, as he captured the title of the event in a noteworthy time of 53.14 seconds. He was trailed by Nick Thoman of SwimMAC Carolina, who remained in a lead of
0.43 seconds over the gold medallist and occupied the second fastest spot of the event, with a timing of 53.57 seconds for silver medal.
The top finishers were followed by Ryan Lochte of Daytona Beach Swimming, who was just 0.22 seconds behind Thoman and stepped on the podium for the bronze medal in a time of 53.79 seconds. Kyle Owens of Auburn Aquatics emerged as the fourth fastest swimmer
of the back-stroke event, as he remained 0.51 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and touched the finishing wall to post time of 54.30 seconds.
Thoman’s team-member, Eugene Godsoe was the fifth finest swimmer to conclude his swim, as he was only a touch away from overwhelming the effort of his former finisher, Owens. Godsoe remained 0.04 seconds away from the fourth finisher and clocked a time of
54.34 seconds. He was traced by David Russell of California Aquatic, who ended his swim and posted a sixth fastest time of 54.44 seconds.
Benedict Hesen of Una GSC-FL was the seventh fastest swimmer of the two-lap race, as he posted an effort of 54.56 seconds. Similarly, David Plummer of Minnetonka Swim secured the eight best position of the back-stroke swim, by producing a time of 54.74 seconds.
In addition, the crowd applauded for the invincible efforts of Grevers, while the top-three position holders of the event received awards and accolades after the conclusion of the session.
