Matthew Harley Goss lines up for the Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2013
Matthew Harley Goss of Team Orica-GreenEdge has been selected to represent the Australian National Team for the upcoming Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2013.
The event is scheduled from January 3-6, 2013 and Goss will be accompanied by already named Nathan Haas, Simon Gerrans and Simon Clarke at the four-day race.
Many stars are expected to shine at the 60th edition of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour in the season ahead and the defending champion, Nathan Haas will certainly have to be at his best, if he wishes to retain his title.
Former Milan-San Remo Winner, Matthew Goss along with his teammate Simon Gerrans is definitely a deadly duo that can turn the tables around at any stage of the race.
Goss entered the history books in 2011 when he outsprinted two of the most skilled sprinters in the peloton, Fabian Cancellara of Team RadioShack-Nissan and Philippe Gilbert of Team BMC and became the first Australian ever in history of the sport to win
the 298 kilometre Classic event.
"The Tour has quite a few challenging climbs, so for me it's about waiting to see how the race unfolds to know if I will be in the mix towards the end of some of the more hillier stages and therefore in with a shot at the overall title," said Goss.
"Stage wins on the two flatter stages are more likely to be my focus or even a stab at the point's jersey again".
"If there is still a big group still together over Mount Macedon and coming into Bendigo, it is definitely one to keep your eye on and will make for a pretty entertaining finish,” he concluded.
Goss’ 2012 highlights include a stage 3 win at the Giro d’Italia and a stage 1 win at the Tirreno-Adriatico along with the first overall position at the Tour of Turkey point’s classifications.
The 26-year-old is aiming to mark a return at this year’s Giro d’Italia along with a stage victory at this year’s Sun Tour and will also eye the overall classifications if he finds himself in the right situation.
Only time will tell if the strength of Nathan Haas, Simon Gerrans, Simon Clarke and Matthew Harley Goss can help the Australian National team at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2013.
