Matthew Harley Goss missed the stage victory but leads the overall classifications
Matthew Goss of Team GreenEdge rode brilliantly during the second stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey and came close to registering his first individual win of the 2012 season.
The cyclist missed the stage win and is now leading the stage 2 classifications. He seems more content towards claiming the stage victory than the overall lead.
"I'd rather have the stage win than the jersey but I'm happy to be in the lead," Goss explained.
"We came here as a team to try and work out the lead out and that's going pretty well.
“Brett Lancaster did a fantastic job from 1km out but Andre got that jump and I couldn't shut that gap back down. It's only a matter of time until I get my first win of the year”.
“I'm second again, so I'm close! I hope I'll be a winner soon. I'm getting better and better", he concluded.
Goss fell 4 seconds short of Theo Bos during the first stage and had to settle for the second position.
The 153 kilometre stage 2 of the race brings the same sort of result for the Australian. It was Andre Greipel who shattered his dreams of a stage win at during the opening stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey.
Greipel launched his attack in the final 200 metres of the race which helped him with his sixth stage win of the season.
He crossed the finish line in a quickest time of 3 hours, 16 minutes and 4 seconds.
Matthew Harley Goss claimed the second spot with Matteo Pelucchi, Mark Renshaw and Andre Schulze finishing at the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Stage 1 winner Theo Bos finished at the 101st position and has now dropped to the fourth overall slot after the stage 2 classifications.
Matthew Goss is now leading the category with a total time of 6 hours, 21 minutes and 47 seconds with Andre Greipel and Matteo Pelucchi at the second and the third positions.
Goss is having a disappointing season and his only victory came during the team’s time trial stage 1 of the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
The 25-year-old is now eyeing at the coming stages of the Turkish race to secure his first overall victory of the 2012 season.
