The cyclist shined during the third stage of the Giro d’ Italia 2012 after his remarkable performance at the 190 kilometre race.
He crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 4 hours, 20 minutes and 53 seconds to achieve the honours.
Juan Jose Haedo of Team Saxo Bank finished at the second position while Tyler Farrar of Team Garmin-Barracuda occupied the third position.
Arnaud Demare of Team FDJ-BIG Mat, Mark Renshaw of Team Rabobank, Thor Hushovd of Team BMC and Alexander Kristoff of Team Katusha finished at the next four positions.
Matthew was overjoyed after the victory and briefed that his team worked as a unit to register their first Grand Tour win of the season.
He cited, "I guess it was a bit of really fast sprint, we went uphill with about a kilometre to go, and then it was downhill and very fast to the finish”.

"I had two guys who delivered me to the last 300 metres, but I think there was a bit of carnage behind”.
Goss’ first win at the Italian race came during the stage 9 of the Giro d’ Italia 2010 and he was really happy to register his second Grand Tour victory early on the season.
"It's my second Giro stage win. It's great to win here in a pure bunch sprint. I'm very happy for the team”.
“There were a lot corners in the finale, that always strings the bunch out but I had a great team", he briefed.
Matthew has already secured two victories in the season including the stage1 win at the Tirreno-Adriatico and the points classification victory at the Tour of Turkey.
The 25-year-old started his professional hunt with Team CSC for 2007-09 seasons and joined the American side Team HTC-Columbia for 2010-11 seasons.
He was contacted by Shayne Bannan to join his side Team Orica-GreenEdge for its first season at the top level of the sport.
The cyclist was more than happy to join his home team and his performance during the third stage of the Giro d’ Italia 2012 has really helped the team in achieving its goals for the season.
