Matthew Hatton wants to beat Amir Khan after Kell Brook – Boxing News
Former Commonwealth and World title challenger and the current European Champion, Matthew Hatton wants to take on Amir Khan once he beats Kell Brook. Hatton is scheduled to fight Brook for the WBA Inter-Continental and IBF International welterweight titles
at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on Saturday.
Matthew Hatton is currently at the acme of success. Many analysts are of the view that Matthew is following the footsteps of his brother Ricky Hatton, former champion.
In his recent interview, Matthew Hatton said that he is currently at the top of his career and that it is the right time for him to set his eyes on bigger fishes such as Amir Khan. His exact words were, “He is eyeing a move up to the welterweight division,
so a clash with the winner of this fight is natural.”
Praising Khan’s fighting skills, Hatton added, “Amir is a fantastic fighter, he is somebody I respect a lot. Even though I stepped up in weight and gave away a lot of size on the night of the fight - Alvarez was 10lbs heavier than me - looking at what he
has done to his opposition before and after our contest fills me with confidence. Alvarez did not hurt me - and I didn't really feel outclassed - I just couldn't cope with the size difference. I got a lot of respect from that fight but I still lost. That experience
has made me even hungrier to succeed - and even more confident.”
He further added that now he has come down to his natural weight and that he has always aimed to become the world champion at the welterweight level. He further said that if he beats Brook in his upcoming fight, he would get the opportunity to fight Khan.
If Hatton is able to beat Brook, it will be his career’s 50th victory. On the other hand, Amir Khan is currently scheduled to face Lamont Peterson on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Things will get even better for Hatton if Khan beats Peterson
to grab the IBF and WBA super lightweight titles.
