Matthew Hatton warns Kell Brook fatherhood can hinder his preparations – Boxing news
Matthew Hatton, hailing from Manchester, believes that acquiring fatherhood for the first time can hinder Brook’s preparations for the big match.
Kell Brook, of Sheffield, is headed towards Motorpoint Arena to face Matthew Hatton on March 17. The bout will be televised by Sky Sports with main emphasis being on Kell Brook, since he is the unbeaten one.
According to Hatton, the 25-year-old Brook might be overburdened with the joy of becoming a father for the first along with fighting one of the biggest matches of his career. Hatton talks through experience since he has been through a similar situation before.
Even Hatton’s partner is expecting and is due in early March 2012, while Kell’s partner is due in mid February. However, since Hatton is already the experienced one, he thinks he will manage it just fine.
Jenna, Hatton’s partner, is due on March 4. Hatton will see his baby girl just 13 days before the big 147lb bout against Kell. Hatton’s previous experience came when his partner was expecting their son Jack while he was busy preparing for the clash against
Craig Watson in Manchester in 2008, for the Commonwealth title.
Hatton established that his preparations against Craig were heavily affected due to his experience of becoming father for the first time. He further added that the joy and time it takes can divert any fighter’s mind and that the can happen to Kell as well.
He continued, “Our baby girl is due on March 4, but Jack was two weeks late. If she goes two weeks over with the new baby it’ll be the day after the fight, so she’s sweating a bit. Jenna’s a massive support for my career and she represented Great Britain
and England in a number of swimming events so, as an athlete herself, Jenna knows the dedication involved and the pressures you are under ahead of competing. She was never a boxing fan before we met but she loves her boxing now and she’s more keen on Saturday
Fight Night than me to be honest!”
The bout is being considered as one of the major boxing clashes of 2012 with more than 5,000 tickets already sold within 3 days.
