Matthew Hayden, the former Australian cricketer, has decided to hang up his boots from all forms of cricket. The on-going Big Bash Twenty20 tournament will be the last event the left-handed opener will take part in.
Hayden had already bid adieu to international cricket back in 2009, playing his last Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Sydney. However, he continued to play domestic competitions and also took part in the Indian Premier League
(IPL) representing the Chennai Super Kings.
The 40-year-old opener, who wants to focus on his personal life, said, “I don't think I'll play again next year...this will be it for me. There's just so much happening in my life, you can never wind back the clock...I'm a father
of three firstly and I have a lot of work to do off the field.”
Hayden, who is one of the most successful opening batsmen for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, was signed by Brisbane Heat for the Big Bash League. Brisbane is set to host Melbourne Stars in their next outing.
Shane Warne, the leg-spin bowler, leads Stars' bowling attack and Hayden is eager to face the legendary bowler for one final time. However, the left-hander hopes of coming on top against the leggy and win a match for his side.
Hayden said, “I probably won't face Warnie (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672) again - hopefully I will be the winner.”
The match between the two Australian domestic sides will take place on Tuesday, December 20 at Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba. Both teams lost their opening fixtures and will give it their all to make up for the sluggish
start to their campaigns.
