Matthew Hutchins pockets Men’s 100m butterfly gold – New Zealand SC Championships
Matthew Hutchins of Wharenui Swim Club-CB pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly in 16 and over age group on opening day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
The 18-year-old Hutchins showed no leniency to his opponents and sprinted his way to the finishing blockade for top position.
Hutchins’ immaculate efforts coupled with powerful stroke played a key role in his victory and he levitated himself on the medal rostrum for gold medal by clocking an effort of 54.83 seconds.
The gold medallist was traced by Max Polianski of United Swimming Club-AK, who was 0.67 seconds behind and touched the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 55.50 seconds.
Polianski was followed by Samuel Perry of St Peters Swimming Academy-WK, who remained only half a minute behind and transpired on the finishing end as third best finisher by clocking an effort of 56.00 seconds.
Perry was traced by Archer Roelants of North Shore Swimming-AK, who remained 0.12 seconds apart and hit the wall for fourth position by clocking an effort of 56.12 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by William Campbell of Wharenui Swim Club-CB, who remained 0.05 seconds apart and touched the wall with a timing of 56.17 seconds.
Campbell was traced by Fernando Castellanos of Levin Swimming Club-MW, who stayed 0.07 seconds behind and finished sixth in the race by touching the wall with an effort of 56.24 seconds.
Subsequently, Castellanos remained just 0.03 seconds faster from his following swimmer, Isaac Foote of Capital Swim Club-WN, who proved his eligibility for seventh position of the race by producing an effort of 56.27 seconds.
The 19-year-old Foote was followed by his teammate, Sam Turner, who remained 0.08 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing blockade as eighth position holder by posting a time of 56.35 seconds.
In addition, Hutchins received a huge round of applause from the crowd for his undisputed efforts in the 100m event and said that he would keep working hard to achieve the same at international level.
