Matthew Jarvis extends stay at Wolverhampton Wanderers
English Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers have ensured that Matthew Jarvis will stay at the club for the foreseeable future after the flying winger penned a new five-year deal.
The 24-year-old has been in impressive form under manager Mick McCarthy and became an important part of the side which helped the club retain their top-flight status last season. He has started each of the club’s three league games so far this campaign.
Jarvis told the Wolves’ official website of his delight at extending his contract. He said that: “I'm really enjoying my football at the minute and the club have made a good start to the season and are moving in the right direction. I was pleased when the club said they wanted to talk to me about a new deal. I've been playing regularly and contributing to the team and really enjoying it so I was more than happy to extend my stay.”
McCarthy added that: “Jarvo is one of the young players who came in and helped get us promoted and has become a mainstay of the team. It's great news that he's committed to the club for another five years. He has done really well for us ever since he came to the club and has just got better and better, so much so that there was the suggestion of an England call-up last month.”
Jarvis has been with Wolves since 2007, when he joined from Gillingham for an undisclosed fee. Injuries suffered in pre-season training meant that he did not make his debut for the club until that September but — other than an hamstring injury that kept him out of action for six weeks in 2008 — he has rarely been out of the side since.
The player has made 92 appearances for Wolves and has scored eight goals.
