Matthew Levings captures Boys 1500m freestyle gold: Day five – Australian Age Championships
Matthew Levings of Miami captured the crown of the Boys 1500m freestyle in the age category of 17-18 Year Olds on day five of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Friday, April 13.
Levings remained nearly two body lengths ahead of his following swimmers in the distant freestyle event. With his epic performance, he won gold medal of the event by clocking a time of 15 minutes and 21.14 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jarrod Poort of Wests Illawarra, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by touching the wall in a time of 15 minutes and 23.80 seconds.
Poort was followed by Zhen Teo of Singapore, who stayed considerably slower from his former finisher and occupied third position of the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 15 minutes and 45.58 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secure by Jack McLoughlin of Nudgee Brothers, who stayed nearly eight seconds behind and ended his swim in a time of 15 minutes and 53.52 seconds. McLoughlin was chased by Eugene Tee of Surrey Park, who ended his swim
in fifth place with an effort of 16 minutes and 03.01 seconds.
Moments later, Nick Robertson proved his mettle for gold medal of the Boys 16 Year Olds 100m butterfly by clocking a time of 54.89 seconds.
Robertson was trailed by Regan Leong, who remained nearly 0.20 seconds slower and earned silver medal of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 55.10 seconds.
Leong was chased by Ben Schafer of Willoughby, who claimed bronze medal of the discipline by producing an effort of 55.27 seconds.
Schafer was chased by Stuart Rech of Acacia Bayside, who settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by posting a time of 55.51 seconds.
Rech was chased by Mitchell Pratt of Tigersharks, who finished his swim in fifth place by clocking 55.81 seconds.
The session came to an end after the completion of all swimming events whereas the position holders collected medals and accolades for their phenomenal efforts at medal ceremony of the championship.
