Matthew Levings captures Men’s 400m freestyle gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Matthew Levings of Australia captured gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Saturday, August 25.
Levings served notice of his wonderful talent in the playoff of the 400m discipline, as he showed no leniency to his challengers and sprinted his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With his continuous efforts, he stayed in a lead of half body length over his closest opponent and tapped the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 3 minutes and 51.71 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by his teammate, Mack Horton, who stayed 0.55 seconds slower and emerged on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 52.26 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Evan Pinion of USA, who remained just one stroke apart and appeared on the wall as third fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 52.60 seconds.
Similarly, Pinion was trailed by Janardan Burns of USA, who stayed 0.66 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer with a timing of 3 minutes and 53.26 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Takumi Komatsu of Japan, who was 1.24 seconds slower from his former finisher and submitted a time of 3 minutes and 54.50 seconds.
Komatsu was trailed by William Brothers of Canada, who stayed 0.32 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and reached the wall for sixth best place with a timing of 3 minutes and 54.82 seconds.
Subsequently, Brothers was followed by Aly Abdel Khalik of Canada, who remained prominent for seventh position of the race by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 55.36 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Shogo Takeda of Japan, who suffered a loss of nearly three seconds from his preceding swimmer and ended his race in sixth place by posting a time of 3 minutes and 58.43 seconds.
In addition, Levings expressed happiness over his victory in the eight-lap discipline at the victory ceremony.
