Matthew Levings snares Men’s 800m freestyle gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Matthew Levings of Australia snared gold medal of the Men’s 800m freestyle on day four of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, August 26.
The Australian swimmer met expectations of his followers by snaring top position of the 16-lap event. He spoiled the party of his fellow swimmers by reaching the finishing wall with a fastest timing for gold medal.
Levings stayed nearly three body lengths ahead of his subsequent swimmer and hit the wall with a timing of 7 minutes and 56.94 seconds for gold medal.
Levings was followed by William Brothers of Canada, who stayed almost three seconds behind and secured silver medal of the race by submitting a time of 7 minutes and 59.69 seconds.
Brothers was chased by Shogo Takeda of Japan, who stayed 0.74 seconds slower and hit the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 00.43 seconds for bronze medal.
Similarly, Takeda was chased by Mack Horton of Australia, who stayed only 0.19 seconds slower from overwhelming the third position holder and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with a timing of 8 minutes and 00.62 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Evan Pinion of USA, who suffered a deficit of nearly seven seconds and made his way to the wall by submitting a time of 8 minutes and 07.11 seconds.
Pinion was chased by David Heron of USA, who stayed 3.23 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as sixth fastest swimmer with an effort of 8 minutes and 10.34 seconds.
Subsequently, Heron remained 2.01 seconds ahead of Ted Singley of USA, who finished his race in seventh best place by reporting a time of 8 minutes and 12.35 seconds.
Singley was traced by Takumi Komatsu of Japan, who was just an inch slower from him and touched the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 12.41 seconds.
In addition, Levings received massive admiration from the crowd for his undisputed efforts in the distant freestyle event and said that he would try to accomplish the same in upcoming events.
