Matthew Macklin believes he can easily beat Sergio Martinez – Boxing News
In his recent interview, the 28-year-old Matthew Macklin said that he can easily beat his upcoming opponent Sergio Martinez since he is bigger and stronger. The bout between both the fighters is scheduled for Saturday night.
Matthew Macklin currently stands with 28 wins, 3 losses and 19 knockouts in his portfolio, whereas Martinez has bagged 48 wins, 2 losses, 2 ties and 27 knockouts throughout his career. Specifically talking about the size of both men, Martinez is actually
bigger than Macklin. Both men have the same height but Martinez has a longer reach of 75 inches whereas Macklin has a reach of 72 inches. Keeping this in mind, Macklin’s claims of being ‘bigger’ are incorrect. However, as far as being the stronger one is concerned,
Macklin is right to a certain extent since his a strong hitter if he gets to the inside.
His exact words were, “I can make him fight. I’m the bigger and stronger fighter. I don’t believe Martinez can cope with the intensity and burning desire that I will bring into that ring with me.”
At the moment, both fighters are at the best of their career. However, many analysts are of the view that Martinez is gradually losing his venom since he is growing old. Macklin is the younger one between the two, which gives him an edge. In addition, Macklin
is the speedier one while Martinez relies on his strength throughout his fights.
As for now, Macklin seems to be sure-footed. In his recent interview, he has been provoking his to-be opponent harshly and it seems like he is onto making this fight an epic one. If Macklin beats Martinez, he might be the next opponent for Julio Cesar Chavez
who is the current WBC titleholder.
Commenting on his future plans and his past failures, Macklin iterated, “It's been a long, hard road at times for me, but it will all be worth it when I beat Martinez. I was very disappointed not to get the decision against Sturm but this is a silver lining.
Everyone in America saw that and they were way more outraged than we were in England or Ireland.”
