Matthew Macklin hires services of Buddy McGirt against Sergio Martinez – Boxing news
Matthew Macklin, Britain’s number one middleweight, who will take on the world number one middleweight Sergio Martinez, has decided to hire his former trainer Buddy McGirt in order to prepare himself for the bout of his life.
Macklin while giving an interview to Press Association Sport shared his views and game plan regarding the upcoming Madison Square Garden engagement. It seems that the 29-year-old is too enthusiastic and energetic about his bout with world’s best pound-for-pound
brawler since in the whole interview Matthew, infamous as ‘Mack the Knife’ denoted this clash as a fairytale and a dream come true.
Matthew is among those brawlers who fight not just for the gold but also for honour, respect, prestige, and sheer competition. They strive hard to make their place in the division by winning over maximum opponents in the most authoritative and commanding
way possible.
Matthew while sharing his views on standing against Sergio Martinez in the same ring said, “It is good because being at Madison Square Garden, on St Patrick's Day, against Martinez, on HBO, it ticks all the boxes. It's like a fairytale.”
Macklin lost his last bout against Felix Strum, the bout which had WBA super middleweight title gold on the line. The bout ended in a split decision in Felix’s favour whereas the fact is all and sundry were unanimous that Matthew pounded Felix effectively
and therefore should be the winner.
Despite of that controversial loss Matthew says that he does not want to recall those harsh memories and just needs to concentrate on his current high profiled Argentinean opponent. Matthew in the interview revealed that he has decided to change his trainer
and will now train under the supervision of Buddy McGirt.
Mack the Briton Knife while explaining his decisions said, “Joe is a good conditioner but I think the level I'm fighting at now, for boxing knowledge and from a technical and tactical point of view, he's probably not on that level yet. He's still a young
trainer, learning. In this kind of league, when you come back to the corner, you want to be looking at someone who has been there and done it.”
Matthew and Sergio will collide on March 17, 2012 for a 12-round bout with Sergio’s WBC Diamond middleweight title on the line.
