Matthew Macklin wants rematch against Felix Sturm of Bosnia – Boxing news
The Irish professional boxer Matthew Macklin, who is the former Irish, British and European middleweight champion, has demanded a rematch against Felix Sturm of Bosnia after Matthew ‘The Tipperary Tornado’ Macklin lost his WBA World Middleweight title on
Saturday, June 25, 2011 by a debatable split decision at the Lanxess-Arena in Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
The 32-year-old, Sturm has already offered a rematch to Macklin believing that the decision taken was a bad one. The decision at the Lanxess-Arena become controversial at the time when Macklin dropped his head down and Felix Sturm’s hand was raised as the
champion. It was Macklin’s second defence of his EBU Middleweight title. Sturm made the seventh successful defence of his WBA World Middleweight title against Macklin.
The 29-year-old, Matthew ‘Mack The Knife’ Macklin performed very well throughout his competition with WBA Super World middleweight titlist Sturm. The current WBA Middleweight World Champion, Sturm looked struggling against Macklin but the final decision
went in favour of Sturm.
Macklin spoke to the press that he tried to put pressure on him to take the bout in his favour.
Adding to this Macklin said, “He struggled to get going and whenever he did have some success I came back with two or three punches of my own. It was a hard fight, but I won it clearly. I'm gutted.”
According to the commentators, Macklin was the clear champion of this bout.
Macklin insisted, “Sturm knew that he lost the fight and he has to now save face with his broadcasters and give me another chance. A fighter knows when he has done enough to win a fight and I know that I won by three or more rounds. I knew there was a danger
of getting a bad decision in Germany and I'm very disappointed with the officials.”
Let’s see how the rematch between both pugilists turns out to be.
