Matthew Maynard backs Glamorgan to turn around season – Cricket News Update
Glamorgan legend, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Peter-Maynard-c75259, has backed the under fire County outfit to turn around their campaign, following a dismal start which has seen them without a win in any format this season.
The Welsh county are relinquishing at the bottom of the County Championship Division 2 table where they have picked just 37 points from their first eight games. It includes 5 losses, along with 2 draws and an abandoned game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785.
Their Clydesdale Bank 40 campaign has also started poorly, where they have currently slipped to second from bottom, following defeats in 2 out of 3 games. Their last loss came against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 where they were beaten by 57 runs.
Maynard, who spent almost all his playing career at the Welsh County since joining them in 1985, claims that the team has enough potential to revive their stuttering season.
"There is certainly the talent there in the dressing room and I am sure they will turn it around," said Maynard. "I think they have been close in matches. They haven't been hammered in any games. It's just the small margins which occur in sport.  “
The 46-year-old was further named as the county’s director– a post he was forced to relinquish in 2010 following a structural re-shuffle. Since then, he has plied his trade in South Africa where he accepted the offer to coach the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856 franchise.
Under his ongoing stint, the club has achieved remarkable success, winning both the Super Sport Series and Twenty20 competition. He was further awarded with the Coach of the Year award in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s annual award ceremony a couple days back.
However, Maynard has kept close tabs on the performances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784, where he became an iconic figure in his 20-year service as a player. He believes that the county must focus on keeping faith in their players, and avoid too much change.
"I think it's about just being patient with the guys there and give them time. There have been three or four captains in the space of three seasons and that is always upsetting and not easy to work with at times for a coach," said Maynard.
