Matthew Maynard leaves Glamorgan
Matthew Maynard has resigned as Director of Cricket at Glamorgan County Cricket Club after not reaching an agreement over the club's future.
Maynard steps down from his role with plans to completely change the club's coaching and recruitment policy behind his decision. The club has said that a new Director will be named in the near future.
"The first stage in the plan to reverse the playing fortunes of the club, has seen the appointment of a new captain in Alviro Petersen [South African international].
In addition, the club intends to recruit a managing director of cricket, whose appointment will be announced within the coming days. This new role, which is a significant appointment, will encompass all aspects," said
a club statement..
It is easy to understand Maynard's view that the county shouldn't eradicate everything that it has been working towards for a number of years. It appears that the final
straw for Maynard were disagreements on how to balance signings from other cricket counties as opposed to building talent up slowly through the team's development system.
"The club has come to the decision that it can no longer rely upon signings
from other counties to seek to achieve success. Unfortunately, the club's current director of cricket, Matthew Maynard, does not agree with this new strategy. Accordingly
he has tendered his resignation with immediate effect," added the statement.
Maynard leaves http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 with good wishes from everyone connected with the county. No statement has been made by Maynard regarding his next steps in cricket but a number
of counties will be looking at him as a potential batting coach ahead of next season.
Somerset could be a good move for Maynard as it would not mean too huge a geographical shift from Wales. However, there is a lot of time for Maynard to make his next decision.
Betting advice
Be very wary of backing Glamorgan to do well next season because the have lost a very good coach and official. Wait and see where Maynard goes next but if he does join
another county, that county will have a better chance of success next season.
