Matthew McLean wins Men’s 400m freestyle gold: Day One – 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships
Matthew McLean of Snow Swimming-PV earned the gold medal of Men’s 400m freestyle meet on the opening day of the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Tuesday, August 2, in Palo Alto, California. The event was staged at the Stanford University’s Avery
Aquatic Centre.
McLean, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer into the final, dominated the final round of the event, by posting a top fastest time of 3 minutes and 47.33 seconds. His time was 1.15 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Michael Klueh of Fast Swim
Team-C, who transpired as the silver medallist of the event, by reporting in a time of 3 minutes and 48.48 seconds. For the bronze medal, Charles Houchin of Una SCAL-CA remained only 0.36 seconds behind his former finisher and posted a third finest time of
3 minutes and 48.84 seconds.
Houchin was followed by Matthew Patton of Club Wolverine-M, who remained 0.40 seconds behind the bronze medallist and settled as the fourth best finisher of the medium distance freestyle swim, with a timing of 3 minutes and 49.24 seconds. Patton was followed
by Michael McBroom of The Woodlands Swim Team, who was 0.70 seconds behind him and acquired fifth fastest spot, by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 49.94 seconds.
In the meantime, Jackson Wilcox of Longhorn Aquatics surfaced as the sixth finest swimmer to complete his 400m race, as he stayed just 1.08 seconds behind McBroom and produced a time of 3 minutes and 51.02 seconds. Then, Scenic City Aquatic Club’s Sean Ryan
became apparent for the seventh fastest spot of the swim, as he was only 0.46 seconds behind Wilcox and produced a time of 3 minutes and 51.48 seconds. Andrew Gemmell of Delaware Swim Team secured the eighth best spot of the freestyle race, by reporting in
a time of 3 minutes and 52.24 seconds.
In addition, McLean was delighted with his successful win in the 400m freestyle, whereas, the position holders were given awards and accolades for their superb efforts after the completion of the session.
