Matthew Mclean conquers Men’s 200m freestyle crown: Day five – 2011 World University Games
Matthew Mclean of United States put up a great splash on day five of the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China, on Thursday, August 18. The final session of the meet conducted the Men’s 200m freestyle event.
In the corresponding meet, Mclean clinched the gold medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time of 1 minute and 47.44 seconds. That splash of Matthew Mclean was short of Adam Ritter’s meet record of 1 minute and 47.42 seconds, set back in the 2007
edition of the competition. More importantly, Mclean moved to 17th place in the current rankings of world swimming. While speaking about his splash, Mclean stated that he was really mesmerised and pleased with his individual swim in the final meet.
Meanwhile, Clement Lefert of France captured the silver medal on the podium by posting an immaculate time of 1 minute and 47.78 seconds and Sho Uchida of Japan snagged the bronze title by submitting an impressive time of 1 minute and 49.06 seconds. In the
corresponding race, Matthew Stanley of New Zealand earned fourth place honours with a time of 1 minute and 49.16 seconds.
Ryan Harrison of Ireland was placed fifth in a time of 1 minute and 49.18 seconds, while Jean Basson of South Africa finished sixth after he ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 49.34 seconds. Ian Konoval of Ukraine settled seventh with a time of 1 minute
and 50.38 seconds, whereas, David Karasek of Switzerland was placed eight in a time of 1 minute and 50.46 seconds.
Earlier, Great Britain’s Jessica Dikcons hit the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 08.91 seconds to win the gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly final meet. In the corresponding race, Japan’s Natsumi Hoshi picked silver title on the podium by
submitting an amazing time of 2 minutes and 08.94 seconds. Meanwhile, Korea’s Ra Hye Choi snared bronze medal in the respective meet by posting a matchless time of 2 minutes and 09.35 seconds.
