Matthew Page and Fiona Spotswood win third day of TransWales 2011 - Cycling News
Wiggle team’s Matthew Page showed a tremendous performance in the third day of TransWales on Tuesday, August 16 while the damp weather condition and big climbs is challenge for the all cyclists but Page took his lead.
Page took the total of 19 hours, 38 minutes and 35 seconds to cover the distance of 73 kilometres. There is no change in the overall classification but it didn’t mean it was an easy day for the riders.
Ajay Chhatri of the Torq team was in second place with 16 seconds down to Page while Jonathan Harris was in third spot and Matt Williams finished fourth with the difference of 25 seconds.
Clee Cycles KCNC team’s Andy Jones took the title of overall solo veteran men’s general standing with the timing of 19 hours, 39 minutes and 20 seconds. Gray Cousins of phasen9clothing.co.uk was in second spot with 20 seconds and Paul Whittaker of Stockport
Clarion CC grabbed third place with 22 seconds down to Jones.
Simon Harrison & Robin Calverley (RAF CC) took the overall Duo men overall standing after the stage three with the timing of 19 hours, 40 minutes and 7 seconds.
Mark Wright & Enda Reynolds (Trailbadger) was in second spot with 19 seconds and David Askin & O’brien secured third spot ahead of Robin & Simon.
In the Women’s category, Cyclist No 1 team’s Fiona Spotswood managed to take a lead in third day of the TransWales. The race started in Clun and ended in Llanidloes with the same course of men stage.
Spotswood increased his pace in the final kilometres and covered the distance of the day in 19 hours, 40 minutes and 47 seconds. Hannah Thorne was runner-up with 11 seconds and Natasha Barry (BikeLux/Progression) was in third spot with 15 seconds down to
Fiona.
Elizabeth Adams & Rosemary Byde took the title of Duo women general standing with the timing of 19 hours, 42 minutes and 7 seconds. Steph Fountain & Lisa Bolton (Saddle Skedaddle) was in second spot with 47 seconds ahead of Adams.
Kelly Clark & Cath Hempsall finished third with the difference of 3 minutes and 31 seconds.
The fourth day will start in Llanidloes and end in Machynlleth. All the cyclists will cover the distance of 84 kilometres.
