Matthew Page and Hannah Thorne win fourth day of TransWales 2011 results - Cycling News
Wiggle team’s Matthew Page won the downhill special climb of the fourth day of TransWales 2011 on Wednesday, August 17. The race started in Llanidoles and ended in Machynlleth.
The course of the stage was difficult for the cyclists because it contains risky and slippery tracks. Page showed his good effort and managed to gain points and took the total of 8 minutes and 26 seconds to cover the distance of 84 kilometres.
James Davies of Brooks Cycles was runner-up with 9 seconds down to page and Simon Hawken of Army Cycling Union/Primal Europe finished third with the difference of 26 seconds ahead of Ryan Machin (Leisure Lakes Cheltenham) and David Ian Price (Drover Cycles).
Ajay Chhatri (Torq Team) crossed the finish line with a difference of 44 seconds and grabbed seventh place, his lowest spot of the event so far.
The overall standing of the stage changed, Page took the overall lead with the timing of 27 hours, 17 minutes and 1 seconds. Brooks Cycles team’s James Davies was runner-up with 58 seconds behind page. Ajay Chhatri was in third place with the difference
of 1 minute.
In the solo Veteran men special stage, Andy Jones took the first place after beating Andy Robert with the timing of 8 minutes and 56 seconds. Gary Cousins came back after a high speed crash in which his helmet was destroyed, he managed to grab third place
with the difference of 45 seconds.
In the Women’s category, New Zealander Hannah Thorne showed a tremendous effort in the TransWales. She managed to cross the distance of the race in 9 minutes and 29 seconds.
Fiona Spotswood (Cyclist No 1) tried her best to take the lead but failed and grabbed runner-up with 20 seconds down to Thorne. BikeLux/Progression team’s Natasha Barry was in third place with the difference of 2 minutes and 19 seconds.
In the Women’s Duo category Steph Fountain and Lisa Bolton of the Saddle Skedaddle team finally managed to take a top place in the special stage with the timing of 11 minutes and 11 seconds. Elizabeth Adams and Rosemary Byde (Team number 28) was in second
spot with a difference of 1 minute and 9 seconds.
Kelly Clark and Cath Hempsall were in third place with the difference of 1 minute and 15 seconds. Steph Fountain and Lisa Bolton won the Duo Women’s overall standing with the timing of 27 hours, 24 minutes and 6 seconds.
Elizabeth Adams and Rosemary Byde were in second spot with 21 seconds and Kelly Clark and Cath Hempsall finished third with 3 minutes and 58 seconds behind Steph and Lisa.
