Matthew Selt all set to face Barry Hawkins in quarters: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
After a successful finish of the first round clashes of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament, the line up of the second stage was all set to begin the action in order to advance into the final stages.
All potters present at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria produces noticeable snooker genius at the baize to register respective wins necessary to cruise into quarter-final stage.
England’ Matthew Selt began his event campaign with his opening match against none other than the defending champion, Stuart Bingham, himself. He played impressively against Bingham and was able to defeat him to set up Ryan Day clash in the second round.
His match against Day was expected to be a difficult task for him because Day has been performing convincingly in the recent season.
However, the tables turned when Selt began his campaign against Day. He dominated the table from the beginning and triumphed over the Welshman by an easy score line of 5-3 to reserve his seat in the quarter-final stage where he will be facing the 2012 Snooker
Shootout winner, compatriot Barry Hawkins. Matthew performed brilliantly against Day as he managed to dominate the game and take a crucial victory.
Selt has never played against Hawkins but still he is all prepared to face him and believes the clash will be interesting.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Selt said, “Being through to the quarters is amazing again. It's only my second quarter-final, back where I did it last year. That particular performance won't give me too many good memories, but being back
in the quarters, I've got a chance to practise for tomorrow and get a lot better.”
He added, “I don't think I've ever played Barry before, it's going to be a tough game. Barry's fighting to get in the top 16.”
The Selt-Hawkins quarter-final clash will definitely be one of the most tussling games as both potters are unaware of the playing style of each other so they have to be extra careful executing their shots. The fans will be looking for a tremendous battle
between the two players as they look to progress in the tournament.
