Matthew Selt backs WPBSA decision of adding APTC in snooker calendar
During the final proceedings of the recently finished 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) made some announcement regarding the newly
added snooker events in the 2012-13 Snooker Season calendar.
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn made these announcement with the aim to give many opportunities to the potters to improve their game and skills.
Three Asian Players Tour Championship (APTC) events were also part of the schedule to be followed in the new snooker season. Several big names of the game, including the four-time World Snooker Championship winners Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins, opposed
this addition saying that the increased number of events will not give the potters much time to spend with their friends and families.
On the other hand, there were some players who backed this initiative with the belief that new emerging cuemen will have a lot of games and competitions to improve not only their rankings but also their financial status taking part in as many events as they
can. England’s Matthew Selt is also one of those players who really appreciated the addition of these events in the snooker calendar.
While in his blog post on the World Snooker official website, Selt said, “As soon as the three APTC events were announced I made the decision to play in all three of them. It wasn't a hard decision at all because you can't put a price on ranking points.
Some people have used the word 'blackmail' when talking about the PTCs, but I see them as a great opportunity.”
He added, “The APTCs are a chance to get a place in the Grand Finals and climb up the rankings.”
Selt believes playing in more snooker events will make his game quite better and he will be able to perform according to the standards. It seems that there is a mixed reaction from the players regarding the addition of several new tournaments to the snooker
calendar. It will be interesting to see how the players manage to cope with the increased competition.
