Matthew Selt faces Stuart Bingham in 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
After a successful finish to the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China, the potters from around the world will be heading towards the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria, Australia to take part in the 2012 Australian
Goldfields Open event. England’s Matthew Selt is also preparing for the trip to Bendigo where he will be facing the defending champion, Stuart Bingham in the first round.
Bingham made his way into the final encounter of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament where he faced the 2008 Shanghai Masters winner, compatriot Ricky Walden. Bingham tried his best to counter the attacking game of Walden but failed to improvise against
him and tumbled down in the final encounter by the score line of 10-4.
Selt was unable to make it to the initial rounds of the 2012 Wuxi Classic as he was defeated by the former World Snooker Champion Peter Ebdon by the score line of 5-4 in the fourth round of the qualifying session. Meanwhile, he showed his class in the Aussie
event qualifying session and booked his place in the opening round after beating Jamie Jones in Round 4 qualifier by 5-2.
Matthew wrote in his blog post on the World Snooker official site, “I'm flying to Australia this week as the tournament in Bendigo starts on Monday. Last year in Australia I got to the quarter-finals, beating John Higgins and Stephen Hendry.”
The Englishman further added, “Hopefully the venue will bring back some positive memories for me and I can have another good run. I'm playing Stuart Bingham in the first round, he's the defending champion and he's had a great start to the season.”
However, despite losing the final of 2012 Wuxi Classic, Bingham is fully aware of the situation he is going to face in the Aussie event and knows the kind of pressure playing as a defending champion. He will definitely be looking forward to take on Selt
with all his might so that he can retain his title. It will be interesting to see how well Selt can manage to put in a good performance and become more competitive against some of the top players of the game.
