Matthew Selt of England preparing for 2012 World Snooker Championship
Qualifiers of snooker’s most prestigious event, the 2012 World Snooker Championship are underway at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield where potters are taking their chances to surge into the televised stages of the event against the top cuemen of the
world. England’s Matthew Selt is also one of the potters preparing to win a place in the first round of Championship.
Selt had an unconvincing season from the beginning as he was not able to hit any major or minor ranking titles. He crashed out of the qualifying sessions of many major ranking snooker events including the 2011 Shanghai Masters, the 2011 UK Championship,
2012 German Masters, 2012 Haikou World Open, 2012 Welsh Open and the 2012 China Open.
He played impressively in the qualifiers of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament at Victoria and entered the initial stages of the event. The 27-year-old continued his impressive game and made his way into the quarter-final stage where
he failed to improvise accordingly and lost to the former World Snooker Champion, compatriot Shaun Murphy by the score line of 5-3. He is now aiming to make an appearance at the World Snooker Champion.
Speaking to On Cue during his interview, Selt said, “I've had a bit of time off after the China Open qualifiers but have been back practising hard and preparing for the World Championship. I'm not playing here in Romford now. I've had a few problems with
the owners of the club allowing lots of different club players play on my practice.”
He added, “I wasn't happy about that so I moved to Cambridge temporarily into the same club as Joe Perry and Neil Robertson and was commuting there to play for a little while. I'm back at Chelmsford now full-time and getting ready.”
Selt is placed in the fourth round of the World Championship qualifiers where he has China’s Yu Delu, Northern Ireland’s Patrick Wallace, Wales’ Michael White and the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s Stephen Hendry in the line-up. To
get to the initial round of the event, Selt will be looking to pull up his socks and stay focused on his game.
