Matthew Stafford's finger shows improvement for Sunday against Panthers – NFL News
Detroit Lions' quarterback Matthew Stafford is set to play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at the Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan with his fractured index finger showing signs of improvement as the Lions look to bounce back from their loss to the Chicago Bears to continue their run to the Playoffs.
Stafford’s injury came to view during the Lions loss to the Bears last Sunday with Stafford throwing four interceptions during the game and attempting a record 63 passes completing 33 of them. The quarter back dismissed the speculation that the injury had any role to play in the performance and blamed the windy conditions at the Soldier Field for his erratic passing. Stafford wore gloves during the Bears game to provide protection to the finger and will continue to use them for two more games.
The quarter back also started the melee during the Bears game when he threw Bears corner back D.J Moore to the ground by the helmet. The resulting fight ended with the ejection of Moore from the field.
Talking to reporters yesterday after practice the six foot two inch quarter back quarter back said
"It's getting better," Stafford said, "I didn't have any setbacks in the game as far as hitting it on something. ... It's getting better every day. I'm excited it's feeling better."
"It's the first time I've really hurt my throwing hand," He added. "The last couple of weeks, I felt like I've figured how to get around it and throw just fine with it. I feel 100 percent, good enough to make every throw I've ever made."
Matthew Stafford has become an important part of this seasons Lions roster playing all nine games this season completing 216 passes from 362 attempts and scoring 20 touchdowns. The quarter back was a first round draft pick by Detroit Lions in 2009.
He is currently ranked 4th in the National Football League for Touchdowns and is 9th in the passing ratings.
The Lions are 6-3 and 2nd in the National Football Conference North Division and will face a struggling Panthers side with 12 players on the Injured Reserve and a 2-7 record that puts the latter at the bottom of the NFC South division.
