Matthew Stanley claims Men’s 200m freestyle gold – New Zealand SC Championships
Matthew Stanley of Matamata-WK claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
The 20-year-old Stanley dictated terms to his opponents in the 200m discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With his persistent efforts, Stanley remained full body length ahead of his opponents and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a nice time of 1 minute and 45.23 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Ewan Jackson of Howick Pakuranga-CO, who stayed 1.06 seconds behind and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a wonderful time of 1 minute and 46.29 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Matthew Hutchins of Wharenui Swim Club-CB, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and hit the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 46.47 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Steven Kent of North Shore Swimming-AK, who stayed 0.65 seconds apart and reported an effort of 1 minute and 47.12 seconds.
Kent was trailed by Dylan Dunlop-Barrett of New Plymouth Aquatics Swimming-TR, who stayed 2.09 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as fifth best swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 49.21 seconds.
Similarly, Dunlop-Barrett enjoyed an advantage of 0.53 seconds over Nick Gillum of Capital Swim Club-WN, who secured sixth position of the event by posting an effort of 1 minute and 49.74 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Daniel Gregory-Campbell of Napier Aquahawks-HP, who was 0.15 seconds behind and touched the wall with a timing 1 minute and 49.89 seconds.
The 19-year-old Campbell was trailed by Julian Weir of Aquabladz Taranaki Swim Club-TR, who was 0.63 seconds apart and emerged on the end with an effort of 1 minute and 50.52 seconds.
In addition, Stanley was overjoyed with his top finish in the 200m event and stressed that he would continue his hard work to make his country proud at the forthcoming events.
