Matthew Stanley grabs Men’s 200m freestyle gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Matthew Stanley of Matamata Swimming Club grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Monday, March 18.
The 21-year-old Stanley stayed prominently ahead of his toughest challenger in the four-lap discipline and cruised his way towards the finishing end for first position.
With his commendable pace, Stanley faced no trouble from his closest competitor and secured top spot on the podium with the timing of 1 minute and 47.13 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Dylan Dunlop-Barrett of New Plymouth Aquatics Swimming, who was 2.60 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 1 minute and 49.73 seconds.
The second best finisher was traced by Steven Kent of North Shore Swimming, who was almost one body length behind and emerged on the finishing end for third position with the timing of 1 minute and 50.44 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Matthew Hutchins of Wharenui, who stayed nearly 0.80 seconds slower and ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 51.28 seconds.
Hutchins was followed by Nick Gillum of Capital Swim Club, who was 1.16 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing wall for fifth place by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 52.44 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was secured by Michael Jack of Aquabladz Taranaki Swim Club, who stayed 0.98 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 53.42 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was obtained by Mitchell Donaldson of North Shore Swimming, who was 0.12 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 53.54 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Chris Dawson of Enterprise Cars SwimTeam, who failed to overpower any of his competitors and finished last in the race with the timing of 1 minute and 53.81 seconds.
Furthermore, Stanley expressed contentment over his notable efforts while the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for awards and accolades after the race.
