Matthew Stanley secures Men’s 400m freestyle gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Matthew Stanley of New Zealand secured gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on foremost day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
Stanley devastated hopes of his opponents in the mediocre distant freestyle event and proved his mettle for the crown of the event. With his impeccable start, Stanley gained a comfortable lead over his challengers and claimed the title in an easy fashion.
His gruelling effort remained full body length ahead of his toughest rival as he snared the title with an effort of 3 minutes and 40.74 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Michael Klueh of USA, who was 0.92 seconds slower from him and surfaced on the finishing end as second best finisher by producing a time of 3 minutes and 41.62 seconds.
Klueh was chased by Yunqi Li of China, who stayed only 0.21 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as third position holder with an effort of 3 minutes and 41.83 seconds.
The bronze medallist was traced by Robert Hurley of Australia, who remained 1.01 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 42.84 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Dominik Meichtry of Switzerland, who stayed almost two seconds slower from Hurley and tapped the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 44.66 seconds.
Meichtry was trailed by Quishi Zhong, who was only 0.16 seconds slower and completed his race in sixth place by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 46.82 seconds.
Zhong was chased by Mingjian Zheng, who was one and a half body length behind and remained prominent for seventh fastest spot of the event by reporting an effort of 3 minutes and 48.16 seconds.
Last spot of the event was gained by MacKenzie Horton of Australia, who stayed 0.08 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 48.24 seconds.
Furthermore, Stanley was delighted with his gold finish and collected medal for his splendid form after the event.
