Matthew Stevens faces early exit in 2012 Championship League Snooker Group 1 – Snooker News
Wales’ Matthew Stevens was outstanding at the 2011 Championship League Snooker and grabbed the title proudly after beating England’s Shaun Murphy 3-1 in the final. The Welshman was confidant of winning this year but unfortunately he had opponents who do
not let go easily.
Stevens’ start of the 2012 Championship League Snooker was not impressive at all, as he was not able to perform accordingly. He is now on his way to face an early exit from the tournament because he showed a poor performance in the 2012 Championship League
Snooker Group 1 and lost three of his matches against Mark Selby 1-3, Andrew Higginson 1-3 and Shaun Murphy 2-3.
The defending Champion might have lost all hope to retain the title this year after getting beaten in his first three matches in the Championship League at the Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex. However, there is still a little hope for him to recover from
seventh position because he still has three more games to play against Mark Davis, Ali Carter and Judd Trump.
If the Welshman performs well in these games, there might be a chance for him to get back into the top players but it seems too difficult right now. The Carmarthen potter needs to put up a strong performance in his upcoming matches to keep his hopes alive
of retaining the title. His upcoming opponents are masters in their own game and can prove tough challengers at the baize.
Meanwhile, the points table is currently dominated by Stevens’ next opponent, Mark Davis, with three points after three matches. Davis still has a lot to play in his next three games against Stevens, Murphy and Selby. Davis can be the one to cruise into
the Winners Group, as he has shown a tremendous performance so far winning all his matches with impressive scores.
On the same hand, World Number one, Mark Selby, also possesses a strong position in the points table. He has got impressive scores so far after clinching first three matches and is likely to surge into the Winners Group where he can get an opportunity to
make his way to the 2012 Premier League Snooker event.
