Matthew Targett grabs Men’s 50m butterfly gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Matthew Targett of Australia grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly on initial day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Australian swimmer devastated hopes of his opponents in the shortest butterfly discipline as he proved his supremacy for the crown of the event.
With his immaculate efforts in the 50m discipline, Targett showed no mercy to his challengers and transpired on the finishing blockade as fastest swimmer. His commendable pace remained half a body length ahead of his toughest challenger as he raked the title
by clocking an effort of 22.51 seconds.
His gruelling pace was followed by Jason Dunford of Kenya, who stayed 0.48 seconds behind and clinched silver medal of the event by reporting a time of 22.99 seconds.
Dunford was traced by Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia, who suffered a deficit of only 0.03 seconds from his foregoing finisher and occupied bronze medal of the event by reporting a time of 23.02 seconds.
Korotyshkin was trailed by Thomas Shields of USA, who stayed 0.40 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 23.42 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Radovan Siljevski of Serbia, who stayed 0.17 seconds slower and ended his race in a time of 23.59 seconds.
Siljevski was traced by Flori Lang of Serbia, who was 0.08 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 23.67 seconds for sixth position.
Lang was traced by Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who was 0.03 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end as seventh best finisher by touching the wall with a timing of 23.70 seconds.
The Dutch swimmer was chased by Pontus Flodqvist, who stayed nearly half a second behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 24.11 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Targett was extremely delighted with his title claiming effort in the butterfly event and stressed that he would try his level best to please his fans by accomplishing the same at forthcoming swimming competitions.
