Following Brad Haddin’s retirement from Twenty20 cricket and Tim Paine’s fitness problems, the Australian selectors have brought the young Matthew Wade into the side for the upcoming clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Australia’s tour to South Africa includes a couple of T20 matches, with the first encounter set to be played at Cape Town, on October 13, 2011.
While the Australian fans are expecting their side to do well in the shortest version of the sport after suffering two consecutive T20 defeats on the tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, Wade is hoping to grab the chance with both hands and do something to mark his presence.
His childhood mate, Time Paine, was in the box seat to fill Haddin’s boots in T20s but Paine’s finger injury gave his friend an opportunity to make his International debut.
Despite the fact that Wade lamented over his old chum’s injury, he at the same time, was determined to make the best of the opportunity and cement his place in the national side.
"Unfortunately he is going to go for another operation but I am not going to say no to this opportunity. I will be doing all I can to do my best so I get more opportunities," said Wade, who has played in 27 Twenty20s at the domestic level.
The contest against the Proteas will be a strange one for both Australian wicket-keepers, Paine and Wade. Despite the reality that they are very good buddies, Wade’s fine show on the South African tour may spark a rivalry between the two mates.
Wade tried to play down the hype of the possible rivalry between two good friends, and said that it will only be a healthy competition.
“We grew up in the same suburb in Hobart so I know him very well. There has never really been a rivalry. We actually help each other out a lot - he's a good mate. I was just making sure I was ready to go when the chance came and I have been lucky enough
to get it,” added the Tasmania-born cricketer who, along with Paine, has represented his home side on a number of occasion at the first-class level.
